FullTrust network setup.

* The default FullTrust configuration doesn't require the setup described below.
* The images that here are shown can differ of the current fulltrust version.

Intro.

The objective of this document is to explain in general terms the procedure to carry out the configuration of FullTrust to be used in network environments (LAN). The result of this operation should give a configuration as a result where a computer (the server) it houses the fulltrust database and it provides data to one or more computers (the clients). Optionally the server will be able to also be used as client. All the operations that are carried out in a computer will be available inmediatelly for all the other computers using fulltrust and all the information will be centralized in a single place.

Server setup

  1. Install fulltrust, at the end of the installation process run fulltrust.

  2. From the windows start menu, from the fulltrust programs group, start the application "Fulltrust database connection parameters"

In the screen you will see the compter's local ip address, please take note of this value, you will need it in the clients computers configuration

If for some reason this utility looks different from the screen above, please close the program, download this file, and copy it to the fulltrust installation folder and try again.

Client configuration

  • FullTrust it's the client that needs to connect to the database server in order to access the information. To connect FullTrust with the server you must set up some conection parameters as the server IP address, the database to use, etc.

  • FullTrust includes an utility that allows to stablish this communication parameters, you can launch this utility from the start menu - FullTrust - FullTrust database connection parameters. Running this utility you will see the following screen:

The above screen shows the default connections settings, valid for the stand alone PostgrSQL server only.

  • The image below shows and example of the settings valid to connect FullTrust to a remote server, in this case the server ip address is 192.168.187.1

  • The vales to set up are the following :

    • PostgreSQL Host · If you select "Stand alone" in the server type option, then this value must be "127.0.0.1", otherwise FullTrust will not connect to the database. If you selected "Remote" in the server type option, then you must input here the network name or the ip address of the server running PostgreSQL. In the case of this example the server ip address is 192.168.187.1

    • Server port It's the "TCP Port" used to connect to the database server, PostgreSQL uses the 5432 as the default port, don't use a different port if you don't know what are you doing.

    • Database name Input here name of the database to use. The default value is "fulltrust".

    • Username y password Input here the user and password to be used to access the database, the default values are "postgres", "postgres".

  • Click the button Save to keep the changes.

  • Click on the button "Test", the utility will try to connect to the database server and will show the result .

  • The image above shows the result of a successful connection and the image bellow show the result of a failed connection.

Remarks

One of the main reasons why this configuration doesn't work it is the presence of the windows firewall. FullTrust is made up of two main components: the client software and the database server, both should communicate. Fulltrust uses the internet protocol TCP/IP through the port TCP 5432. What this means?, it means that in the windows firewall should give full access to fulltrust so that it connects to internet, otherwise fulltrust won't be able to work in the local network. The above-mentioned can be applicable to other firewall softwares and some antiviruses. FullTrust should have full access to internet is the computer connected or not to the internet.
